Benjamin Altshuler is a rabbinical student at Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, Ohio. Through his studies, Benj ponders the big questions of belief and peoplehood shaping American Judaism. He has led several notable Midwestern Jewish communities and currently serves Congregation Ahavath Sholom of Bluefield, West Virginia. Prior TJF Fellowship assignments have included teaching at Adath Israel Congregation, interning for Rockdale Temple, and clinical-pastoral education at University of Cincinnati West Chester Hospital. Benj is an alumnus of Carleton College, where he studied Cognitive Science. Prior to matriculating at HUC, Benj was a corps member of Avodah in Chicago; he worked for Friedman Place, a supportive living facility for blind and visually impaired adults. Benj enjoys singing, reading, and biking, sometimes simultaneously.
